WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
- After women have come forward accusing former Vice President Joe Biden of unwanted touching, President Trump makes fun of Biden by trolling him in social media.
- In a short clip released by the president on Thursday, he featured a sneaking Biden behind the real Biden with his hands around the shoulders, with a caption that said, “WELCOME BACK JOE!”
- In response, Biden tweeted back saying, “As always, you are on the job and presidential.”
In a bizarre tweet, President Donald Trump poked fun at former Vice President Joe Biden following accusations of women who claimed that he touched them inappropriately over the years.
For Trump who has had his share of alleged sexual misconduct and assault by numerous women, of which he denied, this was readily available material for trolling, his known favorite political strategy.
On Thursday, the president posted a short clip sourced from a longer video posted by Biden on Wednesday in response to the claims of women on his behavior. Along with Trump’s tweet is a picture of Biden lurking behind the real Biden who is speaking to the camera, then rising behind Biden’s back with his hands on his shoulders. On top of this is a punch line that read: Biden can’t resist even creeping himself out.
The post was captioned “WELCOME BACK JOE!”
“I see that you are on the job and presidential, as always,” replied Biden later on Twitter.
Recently, about half a dozen women have come forward to say that their past interactions with Biden which included back touching and forehead touches have been uncomfortable.
Biden acknowledged the discomfort he caused in a video released on Wednesday.
“Today, I want to talk about gestures of support and encouragement I’ve made to women and some men that have made them uncomfortable. Politics to me has always been about making connections, but I will be more mindful about respecting personal space in the future. That’s my responsibility and I will meet it.”
The president’s mockery of Biden throws the differences between the allegations against them in stark relief.
Trump kissed former PEOPLE reporter Natasha Stoynoff in a 2005 interview. Stoynoff recalled that the president pushed her against the wall and forced his tongue down her throat.
In 2007, Summer Zervos, who is suing Trump for defamation said he kissed and groped her without permission. The same is true for former Trump campaign staffer, Alva Johnson who said that he forcibly kissed her in 2016.
Although Trump has denied all of the sexual misconduct allegations, he bragged about touching women without consent in a 2005 Access Hollywood segment.
He said then: “I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. You can do anything. Grab ’em by the p—-. You can do anything.”
Biden is widely anticipated to launch his bid for the presidency in the coming weeks.
