Taylor told local media during his deployment as an intelligence officer in January that he will be serving on the advisory team and training the staff of an Afghan commando battalion.

He added that there is a need for his experience and skills to serve in the nation’s long-lasting war in Afghanistan as President Trump reinforced the troops in the country and expanding the capabilities of the commando units stationed there.

Taylor became mayor of North Ogden in 2013 taking charge of the city’s 17,000 constituents. On the day of his deployment, hundreds of residents lined the streets to see him off.
