- PEOPLE reports that the Michigan law authorities continue their investigation of a murder-suicide that happened Saturday evening in front of kids who are celebrating a birthday party.
- Cheryl Myny was shot by her husband, Matthew Pilarowski inside an indoor play center in Marysville, Michigan.
- The birthday party at Jump N Jam was attended by two dozen children including Pilarowski and Myny’s 4-year-old child.
Cheryl Myny, brought her two children to Jump N Jam on Saturday to attend a birthday celebration. She was shot there in the head by her husband of six months, Matthew Pilarowski. The 32-year-old mother was rushed to a hospital but she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
According to Marysville Public Safety Department Deputy Chief Ron Buckmaster, the couple was together for six years before tying the knot earlier this year. They had a 4-year-old child together. Buckmaster added that police had never been called to their home for any reason.
“There were some marital issues that came up, and witnesses saw them arguing hours before in the parking lot. Shortly after 5:30 p.m., while a birthday party’s going on with at least two dozen children present, he pointed his gun at her and a brief struggle ensued and he shot her,” Buckmaster told PEOPLE.
Buckmaster also said that it is possible that 34-year-old Pilarowski fired two shots at his wife. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday to determine how many times Myny was shot.
Pilarowski fled the scene, Buckmaster reported, leaving his own child behind with Myny’s 9-year-old son. The two children were both attending the birthday party at Jump N Jam.
“He never pointed his gun at anyone else and said nothing. He just fled.”
Police officers were sent to Kimball Township, where the family lives. When they arrived at the family’s home, they found Pilarowski’s truck running with the driver-side door open.
“We set up a perimeter and made entry into the home, where we found him deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Buckmaster said.
According to police officials, the two children are with an aunt but local authorities are trying to reunite the 9-year-old boy with his biological father.
Myny’s relatives were not available for comments and efforts to speak with Pilarowski’s family were also unsuccessful, according to PEOPLE.
