Hillary Clinton not running in 2020 election, Trump says she’ll be ‘sorely missed’

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Hillary Clinton announced on Monday that she’s “not running” for president in 2020, but she’s “going to keep on working and speaking and standing up for what [she] believes.”
  • Clinton’s decision got a mocking response from President Trump, saying that his 2016 opponent be “sorely missed.”
  • Clinton responded on Twitter with a GIF from the movie “Mean Girls” with Rachel McAdams character saying, “Why are you so obsessed with me?”

President Donald Trump mocked Hillary Clinton on Twitter after she announced that she is not running for president in 2020.

“‘(Crooked) Hillary Clinton confirms she will not run in 2020, rules out a third bid for White House.’ !” the president tweeted.

“Aw-shucks, does that mean I won’t get to run against her again? She will be sorely missed.”

Clinton, who was the Democrats nominee in the 2016 presidential election, ruled out another presidential bid on Monday.

“I’m not running,” she said of the 2020 presidential race in a News 12 interview in New York. “But I’m going to keep on working and speaking and standing up for what I believe.”

Another potential run by Clinton, a former first lady, senator and secretary of State, loomed over the growing 2020 Democratic field, according to Politico. Over a dozen Democrats have already announced that they’re joining the 2020 presidential bid or have formed an exploratory committee.

One potential Republican candidate who announced an exploratory committee to run against Donald Trump is Bill Weld, former governor of Massachusetts. Former Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Maryland’s governor, Larry Hogan, are both “weighing bids.”

The president has often criticized Clinton for an investigation surrounding her private email server while she was secretary of State. Trump has also mocked her for speaking about losing the 2016 race. Though Clinton got almost 3 million votes more than Trump nationwide, she lost to him in the Electoral College.

Following Trump’s mocking tweet on Tuesday, Clinton responded with a GIF from the movie “Mean Girls” with Rachel McAdams character saying, “Why are you so obsessed with me?”
