Government health officials from Los Angeles County announced Tuesday that a young person under 18 years of age has died from COVID-19.

In a statement, Public Health Director for Los Angeles County, Barbara Ferrer, sent their condolences to the loved ones and families affected by the crisis. Barbara also said that every loss is heart-breaking, and their sympathy goes out to those who are enduring the tragedy.

Ferrer further noted that coronavirus does not discriminate; regardless of the social status, age, or race, everyone is susceptible, and they should prepare based on what they’ve witnessed in New York.

When asked to make clear if the teener had an underlying health condition prior to getting coronavirus, L.A. County health did not leave a comment right away.

On Tuesday, Los Angeles County confirmed that it has 128 new cases out of a total of 662 tested positives. So far, coronavirus caused the death of eleven residents of the county.

Earlier, it was reported that most acute and death cases worldwide are linked with older people and individuals with anteceding medical conditions such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension.

The U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) wrote on their website that, while a large percentage of confirmed cases are mostly adults, there are some infants and children infected too.

CDC also noted that coronavirus indicators are the same with both adults and children. However, the latter may usually show mild symptoms such as cough, fever, vomiting, runny nose, and diarrhea.

As of Tuesday, no less than 653 people have died of coronavirus in the U.S. There are also 51,000 individuals tested positive across the country in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and territories of the U.S.

Meanwhile, it was reported on Monday that an anonymous 18-year-old teen died of COVID-19 in the U.K. With preexisting health conditions, the teen was the youngest fatality of the coronavirus in Great Britain.
